OnePlus 10 Pro received its first reveal in early January and was available in China shortly after. But it took another two months to reach Britain, the United States, and Europe. Was it worth the wait? Well, you know the answer to that when you read the title! Here's our review of the OnePlus 10 Pro.
Instead of introducing a six-month version of the OnePlus 9T, as it has been for several years, OnePlus jumped straight to 10 to follow the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. By the way, there is no non-Pro version of the OnePlus 10, it is all Pro.
OnePlus itself is in an interesting location - it hasn't lost its slightly brighter identity but seems to be shrinking back to the older Oppo unless it sets it apart from other business devices.
There are two models of OnePlus 10 Pro available. Our black volcanic test model has 128 GB storage, 8 GB RAM model at £799, while a premium version has 256 GB storage, 12 GB bush (green) RAM version at £899.
Launching a few months after the flagship 1,049 O Oppo Find X5 Pro (with 256GB of storage), the OnePlus 10 Pro features much of the same tech that made Oppo's premium device quite attractive (thankfully for a shorter price).
OnePlus 10 Pro also rises to £769 / £949 Galaxy S22 / S22 Plus and 849. Pixel 6 Pro, with the latter a simpler comparison.
Design and appearance
The phone's design is quite sleek due to the bulge of the ceramic camera that revolves around the edges and is more subtle with the black model because the color change is less sharp. Elsewhere, the design doesn't deviate too far from the norm, with rounded edges and edges cropped out with the tried-and-true front camera model.
The emerald forest is a MUCH nicer finish than the volcanic black in our opinion - it just looked so beautiful when we saw it in person at World Furniture Congress (as you can see, our version of the review is black). There is also a white version, although it is currently only for China.
The 6.7-inch LTPO2 screen (also on the Oppo Find X5 Pro) simply looks sleek, slim, and colorfast. It can adjust its refresh rate anywhere between 1 and 120 Hz faster than the OnePlus 9 Pro. OnePlus thinks this means it uses less power than a 90Hz monitor.
performances
Performance is great, but not surprising: Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is one of the fastest mobile chips you can get. Battery life is very sparse and we found we could have a good day the next day. With an accommodation allowance of 100% we were at about 75 percent, e.g. At 12 noon and 50 percent at the end of the working day.
Much has been done to make the OnePlus 10 Pro a better gaming phone; an improved version of the HyperBoost Gaming Engine was created to reduce framerate drops (and to reduce any bumps when the frame drops). The tactile response was also improved. Now we've tried a number of games and everything worked as you'd expect - it's not a significantly better experience compared to what you'd get elsewhere.
OnePlus says it has worked hard to improve the cooling of this device with a five-layer system. The phone stays pretty cool even when charged – compared to early 5G phones, the difference is quite significant. And when it downloaded large amounts of data over 5G, it wasn't even turned off.
The SuperVooc wired charger is extremely fast at 80W and can recharge the 5000mAh battery in just over half an hour if you use the power stone in the box. Yes - it is true that in 2022 there is still a plug-in in the smartphone cover. Oddly enough, it uses USB-A instead of USB-C, but it wouldn't bother you if your phone sprays right away.
OnePlus 10 Pro comes pre-installed with OxygenOS 12.1 based on Android 12, which is a soft touch rather than a face. OnePlus says the phone will get three major Android updates and four years of security updates during its lifetime – the Samsung Galaxy S22 boasts four years of feature upgrades that are slightly better.
Camera
Like the other flags, in addition to the already standard wide 48MP f/1.8 lens, there's a telephoto zoom (8MP, f/2.4) and an ultra-wide-angle 50MP f/2.2 that allows you to see 150 degrees.
